AMY'S PRIORITIES

New Canaan has a choice. With my nearly 10 years of service on the Board of Finance and 30+ years of municipal finance experience on Wall Street, I am the most qualified candidate for First Selectman.

Here is how I will work across party lines to make our Town better:

PRIORITIZE FISCAL DISCIPLINE

I respect the taxpayer. A lot.

In my nearly 10 years of service on the Board of Finance, I have developed an intimate knowledge of the Town’s budget process. I respect our taxpayers’ money and I will ensure unwavering fiscal discipline as First Selectman.

PROMOTE TRANSPARENCY AND EXPAND ACCESS TO TOWN GOVERNMENT

A lack of transparency doesn't help us, and it certainly doesn't save us money.

Our Town government should reflect the voices of all New Canaanites — no matter their political affiliation.

CHART OUR FUTURE IN AFFORDABLE & WORKFORCE HOUSING

Let's make a housing plan already.

The Town must develop a plan to chart our course in meeting affordable and workforce housing demands — otherwise one may be imposed on New Canaan outside of our control.

The current administration’s failure to meet moratorium deadlines has landed us in a quagmire — but we can’t turn back the clock.

ENHANCE CELL SERVICE

We get it. No towers at schools.

New cell towers will not be placed on school properties.

  • The contested Republican caucus stoked unnecessary fear among the Town’s westside parents and residents.

  • The cell tower at West School, unilaterally proposed by the outgoing First Selectman, had virtually no support. Further, as under town ordinance, the Town Council must approve all property leases, it was functionally dead on arrival.

  • The major flaw in the entire proposal was that the Town lacked a current study of where our gaps in coverage persist. This ill-conceived proposal was a solution for an undefined “need.”

SUPPORT OUR EXCELLENT SCHOOLS, ADMINISTRATORS, AND TEACHERS

Pompoms up for our amazing New Canaan schools!

Our schools are world class, and I’m ready to prioritize partnership and civility with our administrators, teachers, and Board of Education to ensure their continued excellence.

  • Maintain an open dialogue with the Superintendent of the Schools and the Board of Education.

  • Work collaboratively to meet the capital needs of the school system, to maintain our school system’s physical plant while always seeking synergies with the greater Town.

  • Work with the public schools to pass a budget that efficiently supports all students and continually explore opportunities to increase efficiency between the schools and our Town.

SUPPORT PUBLIC WORKS, PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY, AND ALL MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES

Respect our Town employees.

I will prioritize civility in Town Hall and foster a culture of teamwork and partnership.

EXPLORE OPTIONS FOR EXPANDING DAYCARE

New Canaan has welcomed a large group of new families over the last couple of years, with many two-career families.

Unfortunately, options for daycare are extremely limited within the Town, forcing families to hobble together stressful childcare coverage. I will set up a task force to see how the town can help facilitate more daycare spots.
